Meet Our Students
Our program supports underrepresented students in higher education, providing them with the mentorship and resources needed to excel academically and personally. These students, often the first in their families to attend college, have demonstrated exceptional perseverance and dedication.
Featured Speaker: Gabriel Mendoza, Jr.
Gabriel Mendoza Jr., a Lamp of Learning scholarship recipient from 2021 is now graduating with honors from the University of California, Berkeley! Gabriel is a Legal Studies and Society and Environment major with minors in Education and Chicanx Studies and is set to graduate in 2025. He has demonstrated a robust commitment to public service and education equity, such as serving as a trip leader for Berkeley's Alternative Breaks program, for which he planned projects focusing on sustainability and community development in Puerto Rico. Gabriel is also widely recognized for his activism and leadership on the campus community, as evident through his recent involvement with the California Teachers Association's statewide events. His dedication to empowering others and building inclusive learning environments makes him an inspiring choice to address and motivate the next generation of Lamp of Learning awardees.
